this is an INDEPENDENT roleplay blog for OCTAVO from CADENCE OF HYRULE. heavily hc - based. i'm GLADIOLUS, i'm 27 and live in the est. i'm an english and literary studies major who writes poetry and cries a lot.

GENERAL.

this blog is SELECTIVE and PRIVATE, meaning i will only interact with mutuals and i may not follow everyone back. i'm not necessarily selective with what muses interact with but rather who i follow. i will not follow if:
- you smell like a bigot or seem generally gross.
- you do not have a rules page / accessible rules.
- you do not trim your posts / transfer asks to a new thread.
- your blog is HEAVILY nsfw (ie the point of your blog is smut).
- you're a multi with like a FUCKTON of muses.
- your blog has no semblance of actually being an rp blog.
- i am just completely unsure on how to interact with you.
personal blogs may follow, but please DO NOT reblog anything from me.
i'm very open to ocs and crossovers. in fact, CoH is kinda niche, so i'm more or less reliant on oc and crossover interaction. i'll literally make verses on the fly so we can write together. however, i refuse to write with or acknowledge the following fandoms:
- attack on titan
- harry potter
- hetalia
- south park
- killing stalking
- five nights at freddy's
- any of vivziepop's works (hazbin hotel, helluva boss, etc)
multis with muses from these things are also not welcome unless i, like, already know you.
since they're becoming a popular thing again, let it be known i won't like permanent interaction calls. i've tried them in the past and nothing ever really changed interaction wise or with the relationship between the muns and myself, and i use my likes to keep track of replies. still feel free to hmu whenever, just don't take it personally or as a sign i'm uninterested when i don't like them.i'm not a fan of heavily formatted posts. i'm dyslexic and they tend to be very difficult for me to read. be aware that i'm less inclined to follow those who do heavily format their posts, but if we are mutuals i ask that you please tone it down in our threads. specifically what gives me problems are frequent, random capitalization / bolding, and multiple spaces between words.i tag textual descriptions of sensitive topics as "(subject) cw" and images as "(subject) tw". i do tend to tag common squicks and triggers, but feel free to let me know when you need something tagged!

SHIPPING & NSFW.

octavo is MULTISHIP, however things like ooc communication and chemistry can impact my comfort with shipping. that said, i am pretty open to ships. if you think a ship between our muses might work well, we can talk it out and see how we feel! just don't request like pedophilia and respect that i write octavo as gay.i don't default practice ship exclusivity for canon muses, but may if a ship partner does / it has been discussed between the other mun and myself.i am OVER 18 and will not rp or discuss anything of mature nature with anyone underage. nsfw threads, discussion, jokes, and hcs may pop up now and then. however everything will be appropriately tagged and under a readmore.

DRAMA.

i think callouts for interpersonal drama are dumb shit. but, i do believe people have the right to call out abuse / racism / homophobia / transphobia / other behavior that harms them, so i would consider myself pro - callout to a small extent. however, i do like to stay out of drama, so i don't tend to reblog callouts that don't involve myself or my friends, unless i believe they are a danger to the rpc.i also do not tolerate the silencing of or insensitivity towards real life events and issues. i get not wanting to see general discourse and unpleasantness, however dismissing overt bigotry or discussion of actual, horrific events as "drama" is not okay imo. especially if you are not part of the marginalized group it targets.i do not align myself as an "anti" or a "proshipper." i feel the discourse from both sides has become stupid and unhinged. i am not of the opinion that all unsavory themes cannot be enjoyed in a strictly fictional context, however i do believe that is sometimes used an excuse to defend some truly questionable shit. basically, i do not believe it is the black/white issue that fandom has made it out to be. as a general disclaimer, i do not engage with pedophilic or incestuous content. otherwise, if i feel someone has crossed a personal boundary, i will block on my own.

ACTIVITY.

this blog isn't my only one, so i'm not always here. expect periods of total inactivity because my ability to juggle more than one blog at once is abysmal. i also work as a legal proofreader which can make looking at words on a screen for longer than i have to unbearable. in general, rping is meant to be a hobby, aka something i do when i feel like it. please do not rush me for replies, but feel free to hmu if you're wondering what's up.i tend to post about my muses and random stuff a lot. if you don't like ooc posts, you're probably going to find me very annoying.

there is a story surrounding octavo’s bloodline, and how he came to have the affinity for magic that he does. as with most stories of hyrule’s past, its veracity is dubious, and yet, it persists to these days. reaching far back in his lineage is a powerful sorcerer that once wreaked havoc upon hyrule; it is unknown how this sorcerer came to have such a rich bloodline, but it blessed their descendents with a gift for magic that set them apart from other hylians. when his mother told octavo this as she ceremoniously passed on their family locket — an heirloom said to have belonged to this very sorcerer — the lesson she was likely trying to teach him was that what seems like a curse can be a blessing if you so make it to be.what octavo learned was that the gods have it out for you from the very beginning.despite what his ego might suggest, octavo has humble origins. he had grown up raised by his mother in the small home that had once been a potion shop that was ran with her father. although gifted with the ability of magic that he had taken care to train and perfect, octavo’s true calling had been music — mundane, all things considered. he was talented in both playing instruments and composing his own songs, and with sweat and tears poured into his work, he was able to make a name for himself as a musician. enough of a name, that he was called upon the king of hyrule himself to play for him personally. life as a court musician was nothing less than luxurious — so what had gone wrong? well, octavo would argue that he was never wrong. just a . . . well - intentioned extremist, of sorts.he visited one of the fortune tellers of hyrule, nicknamed the fates for how they never seemed to be wrong in their predictions, curious about what the future held for him. he had been expecting fame as a musician, his works to live on for generations after him — instead, what she told him completely set his path off course; a future of destruction and desolation, his death at the hands of an ancient malevolence that plagued hyrule’s history — ganon. why had she not seemed more concerned? who would rise to stop this evil? if there was a hero destined to defeat ganon, why was his life not worth saving?she told him that he cannot change fate. octavo decided that he could. he decided that he could be the hero to rise up and save hyrule. and, sometimes, the greater good calls for problematic measures. such as putting the king, the princess, and her knight into an unwakable slumber so they would not get in his way, stealing the fortune tellers’ magic threads to enchant his lute, and setting out to create an army of monsters to try and fight back against ganon.it quickly became clear that monsters would stand no chance against this great evil. so, octavo decided he’d deal with it personally. with the power of his lute, he traveled into the future when ganon would awaken and face off against him. however, what he saw at the source of all the destruction was not some ancient beast — but himself. standing in the bones of what was once hyrule castle, boasting how he had become more powerful than he could have imagined, how he had nothing to worry about, that he had defeated ganon and taken over the land in his place. this was not what the fortune teller had foretold; octavo had successfully changed his fate, but not for the better. what kind of cruel joke from the gods was this, he wondered. disgusted with himself, he promptly fought his future persona — self - proclaimed necrodancer — and turned back time to right before he enchanted his lute.all the while, princess zelda and her knight link had been awoken from their slumber by a girl who had somehow been dragged in from another world — cadence. they went on their own journey to stop both octavo and ganon — and their own journey through time, as well. however, it quickly became evident that they saw a very different future than octavo. the one that the fortune teller did foresee; his demise at the hands of ganon. although they all agreed that octavo was simply misguided in his actions, the king still felt wronged for being put under his sleeping spell, and octavo would face due punishment for his meddling.he decided to keep the future that he saw to himself.the night before his reckoning, he fell asleep to the image of those eyes in his mind. that dark gaze that pierced into his thoughts, eyes once his own void of any passion. they devour; burn at his throat like a fever.the trial went far better than octavo had expected. the king of hyrule could not have more obviously been vindictive still of being fooled and put to sleep — not that octavo could blame him. yet, princess zelda and link sang him nothing but praise despite his crimes. he had indeed set out with the intention of stopping ganon, but the power he wielded corrupted him, and he turned into the very monster he had been trying to stop — or rather, he could have very easily become that monster. his own potential haunted him.his punishment was simply being under very close observation for a while. he also lost his job as the king’s personal musician, predictably. still, he supposed he should thank link and princess zelda for not letting him rot in the castle dungeons.

MAIN VERSES.

PRE - COH the atlas of his heart is always reaching for something; octavo is the king’s appointed court musician — though at times he feels more like a singing jester. yet, despite his rather plush position, his name is known only to those who care enough about the musical community of hyrule, which is to say not many people at all.

COH you gnash your wrath between your teeth like a dog, the fortune teller taunts him, tells him how foolish he is for trying to change fate. an evil looms over hyrule, and octavo takes it upon himself to try and put a stop to it, albeit his methods are less than savory. he doesn’t care if the people of hyrule think of him as some villain — it’s for their own good.

POST - COH nothing emboldens sin so much as mercy. after his army of monsters proved to be of little use against ganon, octavo decided to fight him personally. in the desolate future of hyrule, he sees not ganon — but himself. in his journey to quell the true villain, his own power corrupted him. ashamed and disgusted, he fights his future self and returns to the past to face the consequences of his meddling. while he wasn’t tossed in the castle dungeons where he’d stay until he’d rot, he is, essentially, under probation.

AU VERSES.

NECRODANCER the way light rests in the stars is how godhood rests in his teeth. octavo had successfully completed is his quest to defeat ganon — and realized just how powerful he was. he changed his fate, defeated the entity that threatened ganon, why stop there? why let the power he had acquired for himself go to waste? with nothing standing in his way, octavo took hyrule for himself, becoming a powerful sorcerer, forever placing hyrule under his musical spell. takes place during the scenario in octavo’s ode where he becomes the necrodancer.

LOZ / ROYAL MUSICIAN a starling still spreads its wings in spite of the way time tries to bury it. the chicory still blooms blue even when cracks run through it. generic legend of zelda verse where octavo serves as a royal musician, in games where that would be applicable (e.g. oot, tp, etc)

BOTW a mouth full of melody and hand of ashes; we are all small fragments in one greater map of burning, all tiny pieces of brightness given sinew and song as we walk this dizzy land in search of purpose. octavo is a traveling bard who seems to play his lute and sing for a few rupees tossed his way — however, he walks with the true purpose of finding a way to defeat the calamity plaguing the ruins of hyrule castle himself. he has no faith in any tale or song that sings of a hero to return from ashes and quell the evil. he carries the talent to enchant monsters with his music, all that’s left is how he’ll do it. (appearance reference)

PRE - CALAMITY / AOC there is a calling in all of us, for rebirth, for blood, for infamy, for something wild and deeper than skin. we know this hunger like we know the back of our hands. octavo is a royal court musician who has heard talk of the calamity ready to revive itself — as well as talk around the castle of how the princess is unable to do her part fate has planned for her. everyone else seems sure that everything will be fine in the end, ignorant of their impending demise, but octavo has little faith in her or the champions. not that any of this is really his business. entirely seperate from the botw au.

GENERAL FANTASY octavo hasn't always been a house on fire, but he has always been full of light. he hails from a humble village belonging to a large, prosperous kingdom — one he long ago left in favor of being a wandering bard. he once held the position of a court musician, but ultimately left because he claimed there was more to the world calling out to him (although there exists a rumor that while he's not entirely lying, part of his reason for leaving was the fact the practice of necromancy was considered taboo). however, his attitude still reflects once being royalty's pet.there is a tale in his family that their blood traces back to a powerful demon - mage that once terrorized the land. while it would certainly explain their rather odd appearance and their affinity for magic, octavo wouldn't be able to say for sure whether or not this is true. it isn't something he boasts —in fact, despite being highly skilled in the art of magic, that isn't where octavo's focus is, at all; the people around him should consider themselves lucky for that. he truly wants nothing more than to play music, and while he does dabble in necromancy, it's little more than for his own enjoyment creating undead dance troupes.doubles as a d&d verse.

MULTIVERSE whenever there is a meeting, a parting is sure to follow. general crossover verse where it’s octavo’s turn to get dragged through an interdimensional portal that his meddling with destiny opened.
